VegasDrift 007 – Wrap-Up & Gallery
Photos and Story by Jacob Leveton
VegasDrift produced their 7th event on base at the Nellis Air Force location just north of Las Vegas, NV. The event drew more than 50 drivers despite the triple-digit heat, including FD drivers Tommy Suell, Patrick Mordaunt, and Forrest Wang. The event was a huge success, with several Air Force personnel getting ride alongs with the top drivers throughout the day.
Unseeded Top 32 Qualifying Part 2
Pat Mordaunt had a pretty good run considering he didn’t get any practice today, but is lower on the bank than he should be, his score is in the high 70’s.
Tony Angelo has good speed, decent run, low 80’s.
Hiro Sumida taps the wall at the top of the bank, but finishes off the run nicely.
Justin Pawlak has a great run! High 80’s.
Kazu Hayashida has a good run, as expected. The skyline is so damn purdy, but also so beat up!
JTP is on top of qualifying after the first run, more to come.
Round 2 Begins…
Tommy suell is first, he has a good run but loses drift around the last corner and gets a zero.
Looks like tommy left some oil on the track, a short break to clean that up.
We want to take this chance to thank our new sponsor, EnjukuParts. Many will recognize the Enjuku name from their race team, and although the team is taking the season off, they are still very involved with drifting and have some great deals on parts! Check out EnjukuParts.com for competitive prices and great service!!
Unseeded Top 32 Qualifying Part 1
Tommy Suell is first out, they just got the car running in time for qualifying but crabks out a solid run!! 85.42 average, that will probably be good enough for tomorrow!
Brian Peters and Seigo Yamamoto had “average” runs, nothing spectacular, but with the short roster, that may be all they need to get in.
Gary Lang and Steph Papadakis passed on taking their first qualifying runs, we’ll see what happens for Round 2
Chris Kregorian, and Henry Schelley have decent runs.
Joon Maeng has a run in the mid 80’s, Taka Aono getting high scores, Blake Fuller hit 70 mph exiting the bank for a score in the mid 80’s.
Calvin Wan lost drift on the 2nd half of the course and will have to wait for his 2nd run to try and qualify.
Ross Petty looks to have his car dialed in, very smooth run in the mid 80’s.
More to come!!
