Round 1 of 12 in the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross Season

RAHAL LETTERMAN LANIGAN RACING MAKES GLOBAL RALLYCROSS DEBUT

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has added a new series to its resume with the addition of the Global Rallycross entry for Austin Dyne.  The team has competed in CART, Champ Car, Toyota Atlantic, ALMS, and IMSA and also currently fields cars in the Verizon IndyCar Series and WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.  The M-Sport Fiesta is prepared in the team’s Hilliard, Ohio shop.

COURSE DETAILS

The Red Bull GRC Memphis layout will be built into Memphis International Raceway’s (MIR) 0.75-mile oval. Drivers will take to the grid at the start-finish line, launching from 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds directly in front of the fans on site. Continuing around oval Turns 1 and 2, drivers will take a hard left off of the backstretch into the dirt section, which includes multiple turns and the series’ signature 70-foot jump. Returning to pavement, drivers will charge up the pit lane towards a complex paved section that includes multiple left-right combinations. Also included in this section is the Joker Lap, a shortcut that will allow drivers to avoid the complex corners once per race session. The rhythm section rejoins the course in oval Turn 4 to complete the circuit.

“I’m just super stocked for this season to start. First off being with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing is a true honor and the people that work for this team are top notch. We have completely rebuilt this M-Sport Fiesta and I’m looking for a fresh start to the season with this group!  There are a few new rules this year.  One is adding another heat race and getting more points in the heats so it will be more important than ever to push hard. Not that we don’t already! As for the off-season, I have been working on building apartments. E-DRIFTorial: FD Streets of Long Beach “The Good, The Bad, and the Fighting Irish”

Long Beach, CA – After the dust had settled at Long Beach there were a lot of things to discuss. Hopefully by now the interwebs should have ceased being a shrine to James Deane, who is a very strong driver and a gentleman (interview coming soon), but who showed up to Long Beach with plenty of data and setup notes as he had driven an S15 to a very solid showing back in 2010. And trust me, I was there helping my AE86 bros Keith Wong and John Russakoff and just based on that event I never forgot Deane or his aggressive driving style.

It was cool lemonade on a hot summer day refreshing to see other than usual faces on the podium. Deane came from Ireland with sledgehammers for chase runs. However, his lovetap of three-time champion Chris Forsberg went very unnoticed by our esteemed judges and commentators. With that out of the way; the Peruvian Alex Heilbrunn is coming onto his own and the continued relationship with Rick Lamber Jr. from RTS (my pick for crew member of the year, and not just because I sat next to him in qualifying) will only yield greater results in the near future (this was written before Super Drift).

Charles Ng to Pull Out of Formula Drift 2017 Season

Due to unfortunate circumstances Charles Kaki Ng is pulling out for the remainder of the Formula Drift US Season. An unforeseen overseas sponsor issue arose and they have unfortunately decided to pull support from Charles for the remainder of the US Formula Drift season. This doesn’t affect his deal with his sponsors abroad and he will continue to race there. Charles will be looking to see if anything can be done prior to the season end to see if he can return to the US to continue the Formula Drift season there. We will keep you posted once we know further as the season progresses.
