The weekend of August 24-25 Formula D made it 6th stop of the 2012 season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This round always manages to be full of thrills and excitement for both fans and the drivers. This time around the driver would be facing a new layout for the Vegas round.
BALTIMORE, Md. (August 27, 2012) – Over the weekend, Vaughn Gittin Jr. slid into Sin City for Formula Drift Round 6 in the Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang RTR, hoping for a third consecutive podium finish. By the end of the night after many intense battles, Vaughn not only finished 3rd overall, but also gained some crucial points, surging him farther ahead in overall Formula Drift standings. Along with the challenge of the desert heat, a new track configuration was added to the event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway forcing the drivers to adjust to the new course. But Vaughn quickly adapted during practice and was able keep his high-qualifying streak alive by placing 5th out of over 40 drivers.
WAYNE, N.J., August 27, 2012 – Rhys Millen was at the top of the winner’s podium again this weekend after scoring a first place finish at the sixth round of the 2012 Formula Drift season in Las Vegas, Nevada. Millen’s first place victory comes only weeks after winning the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting a new world record time in doing so. Millen’s Hankook teammate Fredric Aasbo, in his Hankook Scion tC, finished the race in second place making it a double podium finish weekend for Hankook’s Formula Drift program.
Competitors rolled into Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the event to a new track configuration and throngs of excited fans. Long Beach, Calif. August 26, 2012 Formula DRIFT returned to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Round 6: After Dark. Rhys Millen in the RMR / Hankook Hyundai Genesis Coupe takes the victory and moves up to third place in the overall points standings leading into the final event of the season.
Round 6: After Dark brought drifting back to Sin City and treated fans to a night spectacle that included the Vegas ProAm championship, Slammed Society car show, Targa Trophy display of vehicles and more. The Driftstream saw an estimated 150,000 viewers in a 24-hour period.
The Las Vegas round of competition is always one of the most action-packed, but with a completely new course it challenged the drivers and excited the fans, said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. Each year we have seen an increase in attendance and have accommodated with the addition of extra grand stands. This was a very exciting event to lead into the championship round in October.
