Round Four Rewards another Third Place Finish For Hankook in Wall, New Jersey
WALL, N.J., June 24, 2013 – For the second time this season, Hankook driver Chris Forsberg scored a podium finish at Round 4 of the 2013 Formula Drift season this weekend in Wall, New Jersey. Forsberg finished in third place in Wall, propelling him to fourth in overall points this season.
The sold out event at Wall Stadium saw 2009 Formula Drift Champion and 10 year series veteran, Forsberg, ride alongside 44 other drivers in his Hankook Tire Nissan 370Z. All six Hankook drivers qualified for the Top 32, while Forsberg competed against fellow Hankook driver, Tyler McQuarrie in the Great 8.
“I am excited to podium for the second time this season,” said Forsberg. “The team and I worked very hard to create the best setup for this track, and the Hankook RS3’s performed flawlessly under the very hot conditions all weekend. We look forward to returning to Seattle July 19 for Round 5.”
Forsberg experienced some damage in the Great 8, rubbing against McQuarrie, but the crew fixed the car in great haste in time to ultimately win against McQuarrie and his GoPro/Mobil 1/Hankook Camaro to place in the Final 4.
“It’s great to see Chris maintain a strong footing in the top rankings and continue the solid momentum for Hankook Tire. The Hankook team is very proud of Chris as well as the crew for their ability to handle damage issues and still manage to pull off a podium finish,” said Paul Jho, Hankook Motorsports Manager. “The sold out event in Wall was certainly a success too. Formula Drift events are special to fans and competitors, and it is always exciting to see such a great turnout.”
All of Hankook’s Formula Drift drivers race on Hankook’s Ventus RS-3 Extreme Performance tire. The Ventus R-S3 is designed for serious sports car, sports coupe and performance sedan enthusiasts looking for race tire-like traction on the street or for use in autocross, drifting or track events.
2013 marks the tenth year for the Formula Drift series and Hankook’s eighth year of involvement. The company garnered enhanced visibility and sales increases in 2012 as a result of its motorsports sponsorships and special racing programs, and has multiplied its involvement for 2013 by again supporting Formula Drift as an official sponsor. Hankook also supports teams competing in the Redline Time Attack series, 25 Hours of Thunderhill, Off-Road Racing and the Panam GP Series.

Long Beach, Calif. June 22, 2013 Formula DRIFT presented by GoPro returned to Wall Speedway in New Jersey for Round 4: The Gauntlet. Daigo Saito the driver of the Achilles / Bridges Racing Lexus SC430 increases his Championship point lead with his second victory of the season.
For the second year in a row, Round 4: The Gauntlet showcased action in front of a sold out crowd in New Jersey. This event marks the half-way mark for the season with the championship in the sights of a few of the top drivers.
We are happy to return to New Jersey for the ninth time, stated Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. After Hurricane Sandy devastated the area last year, we are proud to be able to contribute and bring some economic stimulus to the region with our Series. On top of that we were treated to world class action in front of a capacity crowd.
The new course configuration at Wall Speedway proved to be challenging and exciting for the drivers. A few of the top teams were taken out early in the competition opening the door for others to move ahead in the event. In the consolation round with Chris Forsberg in the NOS Energy Drink / Hankook Nissan 370Z against Darren McNamara in the Falken Tire Nissan 240SX the action heated up when McNamara had a mistake that gave Forsberg the third place finish. The final battle pitted the number one qualifier Justin Pawlak in the Falken Ford Mustang against champion Daigo Saito. Pawlak on his chase run went a little too hard and spun out giving the victory and increasing the Championship point lead to Daigo Saito.
Im very happy to have this win and remain in 1st place, said Daigo Saito, winner of Round 4: The Gauntlet. It feels like I won a championship tonight going against some of the top competition in the Series with Vaughn, Fredric, Darren and Justin and I look forward to the next event. Continue reading →
