Mordaunt and Braille Auto Head to Sonoma
September 10, 2008 (Playa del Rey, Calif.) – Part two of Patrick Mordaunt’s audition with the Braille Auto team takes place this weekend, with the Sonoma round of the Formula Drift Pro Championship presented by Circuit City.
Mordaunt did his part to make sure that Braille Auto owner Blake Fuller was suitably impressed when Mordaunt debuted the car at Evergreen Raceway last month. Despite missing practice due to a broken steering rack in the Braille Auto / RiceBoyTV.com Nissan 350z convertible, Mordaunt wheeled his new ride to first in unseeded qualifying. He would ultimately come a point shy of making his second top-16 of the season, but Mordaunt’s performance proved to Fuller that he had made the correct choice in putting the eighteen-year-old from Southern California in his car.
And, with another month to learn and test his new car under his belt, Mordaunt is looking further up the field for this weekend’s event at Sonoma.
“It has taken some time to get used to the new platform, but the car is working more and more to my liking,” said Mordaunt. “We’ve made some changes to the car since Seattle which will help us out at Infineon. It is a challenging course – it really requires full commitment with a very high-speed initiation and very little room to make a mistake in the first portion of the course. Because of that, we really worked on getting the car to work well with such a high-speed initiation. We weren’t far off, because the car was very good at Seattle. But that was on a banked oval which is different from Infineon.
“Despite having some mechanical problems at Seattle, I’m really excited to have an even better weekend in the Braille Auto / RiceBoyTV.com Nissaan 350z.”
Mordaunt and his Nissan 350z convertible take to the track for unseeded practice and qualifying Friday morning.
