Team Falken’s 1-2 finish at Formula D Atlanta

Posted on May 10, 2011 by Staff

BRASELTON, GA – Team Falken continues its winning streak as veteran Falken Driver Daijiro “Dai” Yoshihara, in the Discount Tire/Falken Tire Nissan 240SX (Silvia S13), took first place at Road Atlanta this past weekend.  Dai qualified fourth among a crowded field of 32 who advanced to the second round.  Team Falken’s regular quintet of factory-supported drivers were present along with privateers Ross Petty, Walker Wilkerson and several others.

Defending Formula Drift Champion Vaughn Gittin, Jr.¸ competing in the Monster Energy/Falken Tire 2011 Ford Mustang, qualified 12th, and advanced to the Top 16 Round after dueling against Falken teammate Tyler McQuarrie.

By the Top 8, it was “Falken against Falken” as Yoshihara defeated Gittin and Darren McNamara won over Justin Pawlak.  In the final, it was Dai who bested McNamara to take the win, the third of his Formula D career as a Team Falken member, and his second consecutive victory at Road Atlanta.

Standings after two rounds place Dai in first, followed by Pawlak in second, McNamara in fourth, McQuarrie 8th, Petty 18th and Gittin 21st.

“We’re two-for-two and that’s a good place to be,” declared Jonathan Bradford, Falken’s Drift motorsports manager.  “The set-ups the teams are running, the horsepower our cars are getting and the grip, courtesy of our Falken Azenis RT615Ks, is exceptional.”

All members of Team Falken use the company’s Azenis RT615K, which is DOT-approved and designed with the track competitor in mind.  The RT615K is a tire offering maximum control, which increases the driver’s ability to fully exploit the capabilities of the engine, brakes and suspension, precisely what each drift competitor needs.  The RT615K performs equally well on the street during everyday driving.

“As a company, it’s always tough when our drivers have to compete against each other, but we always encourage them to lay team alliances aside at the starting line to ensure the best possible show for the fans,” stated Nick Fousekis, Falken’s Director of Motorsports Marketing and Events.

Team Falken will next “Invade” Palm Beach International Raceway, Florida, June 3-4, for Round 3 of the 2011 Formula Drift Championship.
