Hübinette Drives Mopar Dodge Viper to No. 5 in Road Atlanta Qualifying
Braselton, Ga. (May 8, 2009) – Team Mopar® Formula Drift (FD) star Samuel Hübinette scored the No. 5 spot in a strong showing during qualifying today at the Round Two: Proving Ground FD event at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. The Mopar-powered two-time FD champion will hunt for his third career Road Atlanta victory during tandem eliminations tomorrow.
Hübinette earned a best score of 86.7 from the FD judges in his Mopar NuFormz Dodge Viper SRT10®. The man known as the “Crazy Swede,” runner-up at the season-opening Streets of Long Beach event in April and currently second in points, will also attempt to claim his 10th career FD win tomorrow.
“Yesterday during practice we felt that we had the perfect setting, especially going up the big hill on the Road Atlanta course,” said Hübinette, who drifts on BFGoodrich Tires. “We set up the car to get more angle, but during practice tandem runs we realized we had sacrificed the forward bite and were too slow. So the NuFormz Racing team made some drastic changes and got the car to be quicker out of the horseshoe. We had the top speed during the initiation today, so that was great. We had the Mopar horsepower pumping, and that’s what we need to be doing.
“We’re among the top in qualifying, and it’s all going to come down to the tandem runs tomorrow. I felt great during night practice, so I feel we are on the way to another podium finish.”
Round of 32 eliminations are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. (ET) tomorrow. Hübinette will also participate in a special Mopar/BFGoodrich autograph session during the “Half Time” break following the Round of 32. Fans can register to win a number of prizes courtesy of Mopar and BFGoodrich. For more information on the Round Two: Proving Ground Road Atlanta event, visit www.formulad.com.
