Nostalgic Sunday: Sam Hubinette’s Chargers – 2007

After spending all day today and part of yesterday with the Mopar Drift Dodge Charger.  I felt it was appropriate to revisit with the chargers for all that had missed it the first time we had it up on the front page or just wanna get a 2nd look at the beast I got to learn the inside and outside of while being at the DUB Car Show representing for Fromula Drift.

Sam Hubinette has been dominant in Formula D, driving 2 different MOPAR vipers to series championships. However, with Mopar’s re-introduction of the Charger,  the powers that be decided that Sam should probably jump into this elongated, heavy chassis and make it into a drift car. Las Vegas, NV – Kenji Yamanaka was one of the main players when Formula DRIFT was still an emerging series. Yamanaka achieved two podiums, one in the Signal Auto S13 and the other in the Hankook Tire JIC S14, and was known for his smooth driving and fast speed.

Mopar Pulls Out Of Drifting *Updated*

*Update 2* A lot of questions went flying around about the vehicles currently ran by NuFormz.  Mopar informed us that “the vehicles will become team assets, so the managment and the future use is up to them.”

Formula Drift responds to the Mopar/Nuformz Partnership end…

“Formula DRIFT is saddened that the economy has caught up to another company close to Formula DRIFT. Mopar took a big gamble with our start up Series from day one and believed in the sport of drifting. During their partnership with NuFormz Racing and Samuel Hubinette, they amassed the most wins in FD history and 2 championships (2004 & 2006). We look forward to Chrysler’s restructuring and their eventual return to Formula DRIFT. In the meantime, we will work to assist NuFormz Racing to be able to finish off the 2009 season. The NuFormz/Hubinette combination is a world class championship organization, fans and sponsors can count on more success from them in the future.”

Team Mopar®’s Hübinette Exits in Top 16 at Road Atlanta

Braselton, Ga. (May 9, 2009) – Mopar® NuFormz Dodge Viper SRT10® Formula Drift (FD) driver Samuel Hübinette suffered an earlier-than-desired exit today in the Round Two: Proving Ground FD event at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. Hübinette earned one round win before losing to eventual event winner Chris Forsberg in the Top 16 round of tandem eliminations.

Hübinette Drives Mopar Dodge Viper to No. 5 in Road Atlanta Qualifying

Braselton, Ga. (May 8, 2009) – Team Mopar® Formula Drift (FD) star Samuel Hübinette scored the No. 5 spot in a strong showing during qualifying today at the Round Two: Proving Ground FD event at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga. The Mopar-powered two-time FD champion will hunt for his third career Road Atlanta victory during tandem eliminations tomorrow.

“Drift Ya Later” DVD Pre-Release

Last week on Wednesday night we were invited out to go and see Sam Hubinette’s release of “Drift Ya Later”.  A straight to DVD movie that tells the life story of Sam Hubinette.  This DVD was played in front of some media, as well as some supporters and friends of Sam.  The cool part was arriving at the Oakley warehouse and just seeing this massive building in front of us.  Sam and Stina greeted his guests and treated those on hand with some snacks and drinks (Non-Alcholic for those that couldn’t hack it).  Enjoy soem quick snaps from the premiere here.  Remember to pick up Sam’s “Drift Ya Later” DVD now on sale at http://www.toxicdrift.com/.  Video sneek peak below…
