EVASIVE MOTORSPORTS TESLA MODEL 3 IS FASTEST EV AT PIKES PEAK

Posted on June 30, 2022 by George

In challenging conditions, Dai Yoshihara drove to second in class, ninth overall at 100th running of Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

A wet course and dense fog during the 4,724ft climb to the finish line made the 100th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb especially challenging for drivers. Yet Japanese champion Daijiro Yoshihara was able to master the 156 turns on his way to the 14,115ft peak. He set a time of 11:06.205 in the Turn 14 Distribution / Yokohama Tire / ENEOS / Evasive Motorsports Tesla Model 3 Pikes Peak, which placed him ninth overall. As the fastest EV, he was second in the Exhibition Class because PPIHC currently lacks dedicated classes for electric vehicles. Winner of the class was a production 2022 Porsche 911 Turbo S Lightweight.

This year’s event was only the second outing for the Tesla Model 3 prepared by Evasive Motorsports in Cerritos, CA. Despite its promising form in practice and qualifying, a mechanical issue prematurely curtailed its 2021 attempt. During the interim, the team worked hard to understand the car and fine-tune both its aerodynamic and cooling efficiency (see Tech Spec below), making few additions to the race-prepped chassis other than switching to Yokohama racing tires for 2022.

“It’s been an incredible week with no issues,” Dai Yoshihara told us after his successful run. “Practice and qualifying went great, which almost seemed too good to be true. And then coming into today [Sunday] the weather became a big factor with the rain and fog. However, we felt it could give us a real chance because our weakness is the power of the car but the Yokohama wet tires work really well. Effectivley, the rain erased the advantage of the other cars and I think we got a really good result because of it, which I’m obviously delighted about.”

Vegas Drifting at the LVMS

Posted on August 16, 2018 by George

With the next Vegas Drift night just a few days away, many motorsports fans will be heading west to Nevada for some amazing action in an incredible setting. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway is one of the iconic venues on the circuit, boasting no less than nine different tracks over a 1,000-acre site. If you’re heading to the city of sin for the big drift event, here’s everything you need to know about the LVMS.

Where is the course?

The Las Vegas Motor Speedway lies 12 miles north of the city along the i-15 at exit 54. And while it may be out of sight of the famous bright lights and casinos of the Las Vegas strip, there’s still plenty of excitement in store. Las Vegas may no longer be the entertainment capital of the world, since the rise of Macau, but it still knows how to show its visitors a great time, whether they’re spinning roulette wheels or steering wheels.

What kind of racing is on offer?

Basically, whatever kind of racing you are into, from go-karts to Nascar, drag racing to exotic supercars. There are nine tracks at the venue, including the main speedway track, which measures a mile and a half and has 20° banked curves and 9°-12° sloped straights. With seating for 123,000 spectators, it’s an impressive site, even when the track is quiet.

The venue is also home to one of only two four-lane drag strips in the US, a dirt track, an off road track, a go kart track and the bullring for stock car racing. There is an inside road track, measuring 1.1 miles, and an outside road track, which can measure up to 2.4 miles.

The drift racing track

The Vegas Drift events have traditionally taken place on the outside road track, which can be set up in numerous different layouts, including two simultaneous tack circuits. With twelve challenging turns, several sharp hairpins and a smooth asphalt surface, it is perfect for the sliding action of drift racing.

The Vegas Drift event on Saturday 18th August takes place on the North Drag Lot and includes the chance to race your own machine, as well as ride-along with some of the more experienced racers. The track will be hot from 6pm, with registration open from 3.30pm. Racing continues through the evening, with the track hot until almost midnight. It costs just $10 entry (kids can enter for free), and you can test your skills on the wet skid pad for just $40, or ride along for just $10.

Special experiences

If you enjoy your drift day at LVMS, you can always go back for more, with a range of special experiences available on the different tracks. Take a 600hp ride-along on a Nascar experience day, or combine power and poise in one of the world’s most exclusive cars, like a luxury Lamborghini or a fierce Ferrari on an exotics experience. Just don’t forget that you’re not at a drift event when you try it. They probably won’t thank you for throwing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of supercar sideways around the bends in a huge cloud of tyre smoke!

Tanner Foust Sweeps Red Bull GRC Seattle

Posted on September 11, 2017 by George

It wasn’t as smooth of a path as Saturday’s clean sweep, but Tanner Foust remained undefeated in Red Bull Global Rallycross events at Evergreen Speedway with a Supercar final victory on Sunday. Foust bested his Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross teammate Scott Speed, who had been perfect heading into the main event, with Subaru Rally Team USA’s Patrik Sandell finishing third.

“It’s true—Scott could have swept the title this weekend,” said Foust. “We held him off from that, but more importantly we held off Steve Arpin from gaining points. Finishing 1-2 twice puts Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross in the championship 1-2 with Scott leading. It was just an amazing effort from all the guys, and I’m so happy for the whole team.”

Much like Foust on Saturday, Speed was perfect in his heats and semifinals to take the top spot heading into the main event. But a terrific start from Foust, the four-time Fan Favorite Driver of the Year, enabled him to grab a lead that he would never relinquish. Behind them, Sunday polesitter Sandell would take his second podium in the past four races, while Supercar newcomer Austin Cindric and Saturday polesitter Chris Atkinson would complete the top five.

In GRC Lites, Christian Brooks won the battle, but Cyril Raymond won the war in Sunday’s main event. After a first-lap collision claimed James Rimmer’s car and forced a red flag and restart, Raymond restarted in the lead despite missing his entire hood and front bumper, but Brooks used a later Joker Lap strategy to make the pass and take his third victory of the season. Still, second-place points were enough for Raymond to claim the 2017 Lites title—his second in eight days, after earning the European title in France last weekend.

Full Supercar results from Red Bull Global Rallycross Seattle II are as follows:

  1. Tanner Foust, #34 Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross
  2. Scott Speed, #41 Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross
  3. Patrik Sandell, #18 Subaru Rally Team USA
  4. Austin Cindric, #19 Bryan Herta Rallysport
  5. Chris Atkinson, #55 Subaru Rally Team USA
  6. Austin Dyne, #14 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
  7. Steve Arpin, #00 Loenbro Motorsports
  8. Mitchell deJong, #24 Honda Red Bull Olsbergs MSE
  9. Sebastian Eriksson, #93 Honda Red Bull Olsbergs MSE
  10. Oliver Eriksson, #16 Honda Red Bull Olsbergs MSE

The 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross championship will conclude on October 13-14 with th championship final in Los Angeles. Once again, the season will come down to the final race with the champion to be determined. Stay tuned to RedBullGRC.com and Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram @GRCseries for more information.
