So as we look back to 2006. Where the hell is Quoc Ly in 2011? This will be the first year I dont see him running Fomrula Drift. He’s come a long way and been with DriftSpeed for quite some time now. We we’re hoping to see him at XDC a couple weeks back, but that didn’t happen. We hope Quoc gets picked back up and if not, can go privateer and we get to see him out there doing what we know he loves to do. The economy’s been kicking all our asses lately and we hope we all can survive the Not to mention hat hapened to Jasper Performance while I am thinking about it…Right before the start of the new Formula D season, Everything Drift had the opportunity to catch up with Quoc Ly of Westminster, CA. This is what he had to say:
Everything Drift: How have you prepared to be more competitive in Formula D after competing only as an amateur last season? |

Throwback Thursday – 2005 Clipping Point: Calvin Wan
Everything Drift: What is the most unique part of the car right now?
Calvin Wan: I really like the VQ engine itself. None of the top drivers have used the VQ engine for drifting. A lot of people have swapped the VQ for an SR or RB. I like it because it has a lot of torque down low, it spools up good throughout the power range, and still has a lot of top end. It’s a very good engine. We still have it tuned somewhat mildly. We have a built bottom end, but we’re only boosting 12-15 pounds. We dyno’d it around 450, and there’s still a good amount of power we can use. We plan to build the motor up more and push that number even higher, but that’s still coming.
Throwback Thursday – 2006 Clipping Point: Tanner Foust
As Tanner Foust currently sits 3rd place entering this weekends Final round of Formula Drift. We figured we would take a look back to a small interview we did with Tanner in 2006. He has come a long way and now with the Scion Racing team. Take a look at this quick throw back.
Everything Drift: Your best finish last season was at Sonoma. What did you think of the Sonoma track overall, and would you have changed the track at all?
Tanner Foust: The Sonoma track was a nice change for us because it was the first smooth track in awhile. You could make the car sit a little bit lower, and you could be more precise with the suspension tuning. I’m not sure if there was room to because it was so narrow. I liked the idea of not always having a decreasing radius first corner. Maybe a flick into the first corner, rather than a long straightaway going into the first corner, or rather than a long straightaway entrance maybe a kink in the straightaway. The cool thing about Formula D is that basically, you take what you get and you just make the best pass that you can no matter what the track, and everybody has to drive the same layout. Clipping Point: Joon Maeng
Joon Maeng has been a Formula Drift driver for the past 2 years, and a Drift Alliance Ace for the past year. Entering his 3rd season as a professional drifter for the series. We got to get in a few words with Joon about his triumphs and tribulations he has had since he came into FD. As well as his revamped ride and what it takes to run a series like this.
Clipping Point: Ken Gushi(4 Years Later)
We last interviewed Kenshiro(Ken) Gushi 4 years ago when EverythingDrift.com first launched on the drift scene. Since the site was initially launched, we have interviewed many drifters and haven’t revisited with Ken…. until now. We caught up with Ken while at the Formula Drift Ditch Day at Mountain High to get re-acquainted. As well, we wanted to get some info for his fans and the Scion family out there. Ken was gracious enough to allow us to probe the Scion’s 2008 issues. A look into his future and where his dad went, as well as the Scion community which he now calls family.
