Juicebox wheels his Nissan into top-32 at Sonoma
September 18, 2008 (Playa del Rey, Calif.) – In his second weekend in the Braille Auto / RiceBoyTV.com Nissan 350z, Patrick Mordaunt traveled to northern California for the first time to compete in round six of the Formula Drift Pro Championship presented by Circuit City. From the beginning, Mordaunt worked to make his 350Z more suited to the Sonoma course, which was vastly different than the course at Evergreen Raceway where he made his debut in the car.
Mordaunt put in several strong runs in practice, qualifying 13th in the unseeded practice session. Looking to improve on his score to put his Nissan into tandem competition, Mordaunt put in several strong runs during Saturday morning’s practice session, and was able to put in an 84.92 in his first qualifying run. Suffering from a lack of entry speed, Mordaunt came in fast and went for big angle in his second run. Unfortunately, it was too much as Mordaunt spun to a stop and didn’t improve on his score, and wouldn’t compete in tandem competition.
Mordaunt now sits twenty-ninth in the Castrol Syntec Power Cup point standings.
“We struggled a bit to make the Braille Auto / RiceBoyTV.com Nissan 350Z as good here as it was in Seattle,” said Mordaunt. “We weren’t as good as we would have liked, but we were able to identify changes we can make to get the performance level up for next time.
“But we’re excited to be going to Irwindale. It’s the only track on the schedule I have driven before, and our 350Z works great on the banked tracks. I’d like to end our rookie season strong, and with another trip to top-16 competition.”
