Juicebox aims to finish rookie season on a high note
October 8, 2008 (Playa del Rey, Calif.) – Two cars and six months after it started, Patrick Mordaunt will finish his rookie Formula Drift Pro Championship presented by Circuit City season with a trip to Irwindale Season for the final Formula Drift round this season.
Now driving the Braille Auto / RiceboyTV.com Nissan 350Z convertible, Mordaunt is headed to Irwindale looking to replicate the same form that he had when he debuted the car at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington two months ago. On that weekend, Mordaunt had the highest score in unseeded qualifying but narrowly missed making tandem competition. Mordaunt has seen tandem competition in the second round of the season, and is looking to make it twice before the curtains close on the 2008 Formula Drift season.
Mordaunt has had highs and lows at Irwindale Speedway in his drifting career – a crash at the 2006 D1GP before a top-32 appearance in last year’s D1 event – and it is a course which he relishes due to the high banks and high speeds.
“Competing at Irwindale is a great thing for us – it’s a home event, and a track that I really enjoy,” said Mordaunt. “I believe the 350Z is well suited to this type of course, and I think we can be very competitive. I want to end the season with a really strong result and carry that momentum into the beginning of next season.”
But Mordaunt’s 2008 season won’t end at Irwindale, as he will leave and immediately head to Hangzhou, China to compete in a World Drift Series demo, giving the young eighteen-year-old his second chance to drift outside of America. Mordaunt also competed in the Formula Drift demo held in Monterrey, Mexico.
Mordaunt will take to the track for practice on Thursday before qualifying for Saturday’s top-32 begins on Friday afternoon.
