We’ve gotten word from the folks at Drift Mania that DMCC champion Fred Girrard will not be attending the Red Bull Drifting World Championships, as was earlier reported. Marco Santos, who finished 2nd to Girrard this year and has been one of the top drivers in the canadian Drift Mania series for many years now will be bringing his General Tire-sponsored G35 to the event. Santos is building a 350Z for the new 2009 season, but it will not be ready in time. Girrard cited monetary issues for the change. We’ll get you more info as it trickles into us!

Drift Mania Makes a Name for Itself in Toronto
In bringing its series to Toronto for a second year in a row now, Castrol DMCC has definitely carved out a new market and has converted many into the cult that is Drift Mania. This past weekend at Downsview Park turned out to be quite a success; proving that Castrol DMCC is ready to grow even more and make its way further out West. Not only is Edmonton going to get to experience the phenomenon that is Drift Mania this upcoming fall, but there is already rumours going around that Vancouver may be a potential pit stop in the 2009 series. With further talks of having a national television show, Drift Mania is proving that it is of the same caliber as national drifting series found all over the world.

With the stadium filled to almost maximum capacity, with probably the most animated drifting fans in Quebec (if not Canada!); the drivers knew they had to put on a good show. Fortunately for all the spectators that day…they did!
