Scion presents Formula Drift Canada presented by Falken Results; Daigo Saito Wins Inaugural Competition

Long Beach, Calif. – September 3, 2014 – Scion presents Formula DRIFT Canada presented by Falken entered Autodrome St. Eustache for the first time to a record-breaking drift crowd. Daigo Saito takes the inaugural competition victory.

Formula DRIFT continued global expansion into Canada holding the first ever Scion presents Formula DRIFT Canada presented by Falken event at Autodrome St. Eustache this past weekend.

The competition had twenty-one entries. The Top 16 was composed of 8 FD Pros from USA, Japan, Norway, Hong Kong and Ireland and 8 Canadian regulars.

“The enthusiasm for drifting in Canada has always been strong and we had looked at Canada for sometime but without the right combination of key partners such as Autodrome St. Eustache we could not have felt confident to crossing the border,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “We have all been blown away by the level of driving and energy that the fans brought the entire weekend. This was one of, if not the biggest drifting competition ever held in Canada.”

Winner = Daigo Saito
2nd Place = Dean Kearney
3rd Place = Kenny Moen

“I had a great time at Formula Drift Canada. The fans were amazing and they made us feel right at home,” said Daigo Saito, winner of Scion presents Formula DRIFT Canada presented by Falken. “I was excited to win the event, and to stand on the podium with my Achilles teammates, Dean Kearney and Kenny Moen!”

Hankook Drivers Chris Forsberg and Fredric Aasbo Bring Home First And Third Place Podium Finishes At Formula Drift Round Five

First Place Win Puts Forsberg In Formula Drift Championship Points Lead With Only Two Races Remaining In The Season

WAYNE, N.J., July, 22, 2013 – Hankook driver Chris Forsberg drifted to a first place podium finish in front of a sold out crowd this past weekend at Formula Drift Round 5: Throwdown, at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington.  Hankook driver Fredric Aasbo rounded out the final podium positions with a third place finish, his first podium of the season.

Race day competition was intense, with all of Hankook’s Formula Drift drivers qualifying and quickly advancing from Top 32 into Top 16.  Moving forward to the Final 4 round later in the day found Forsberg in the Hankook Nissan 370Z up against Hankook teammate Fredric Aasbo in his Hankook Scion tC.  After an extreme battle, which saw Forsberg and Aasbo make contact towards the end of their run, Forsberg came out on top advancing him to the Final 2 round and securing Aasbo a consolation round run for a third place overall podium finish.

Final 2 pitted Forsberg against Michael Essa in his BMW 3 Series Coupe, but after a very close race Forsberg and the Hankook Nissan 370Z came out victorious with Forsberg winning first place overall, adding another podium finish to his previous two earned earlier in the season.  Forsberg’s win also puts him in the 2013 Formula Drift season Championship point leads and Hankook Tire second in the series’ 2013 Tire Cup standings.

Dai’s New Car Spotted in Downtown Los Angeles

So Dai’s new car was spotted over the weekend.  He was seen traveling west down Grand Ave in downtown Los Angeles.  Doing what you may ask? In the Red Bull Soapbox Race that took place this past weekend.  Might I say, it was pretty funny to see this tiny Scion going down the street and Dai piloting it as part of  the “Import Tuner Magazine” team, and he did complete the course might I add.  Dai’s quote after the run was plain and simple.  “That was fun!”  He unfortunately did not win but either way was cool to see and watch.  The winner of the event was as might have been expected the  “Laker FanWagon” being from LA and all.  Lets start this week off right as its 2 weeks till Round 3 of Formula Drift!

Tanner Foust Slides the Rockstar Energy Scion tC to Victory at Round 4 of the Formula DRIFT Series in Las Vegas

TORRANCE, Calif. (July 14, 2009) – Scion-supported Formula DRIFT driver Tanner Foust, who debuted the Papadakis Racing-built Rockstar Energy Drink Scion tC at the season opener with a third place victory, jumped onto the Formula DRIFT podium’s top spot scoring a victory this past weekend at Round 4 in Las Vegas.

“The Rockstar team and I went from zero to hero after failing to qualify for the main competition last event,” said Formula DRIFT champion Tanner Foust. “I am so proud of my team. They worked hard to fix the issues of the Rockstar Scion tC, and I now feel comfortable and feel that this car has more potential than it’s ever had.”

Clipping Point: Ken Gushi(4 Years Later)

We last interviewed Kenshiro(Ken) Gushi 4 years ago when EverythingDrift.com first launched on the drift scene. Since the site was initially launched, we have interviewed many drifters and haven’t revisited with Ken…. until now. We caught up with Ken while at the Formula Drift Ditch Day at Mountain High to get re-acquainted. As well, we wanted to get some info for his fans and the Scion family out there. Ken was gracious enough to allow us to probe the Scion’s 2008 issues. A look into his future and where his dad went, as well as the Scion community which he now calls family.
