2nd Update: This has been cancelled and will not be a rerun, Casper wasn’t able to run and was allowed the bypass via not running to save time. Justin will move on to Top 16
Update: Casper Canul and Justin Pawlak will run a 2nd run. Apparently both broke from the tap and JTP was supposed to do a bye run. That didn’t happen, so they will both get to go at it for their 2nd run. This will happen at the begining of the Top 16 to determine a winner.
Daijiro Yoshihara Vs. Jeff Jones
Dai leads, and comes out with Jeff giving chase and mirroring his entry. Dai able to pull away a bit and maintain a gap through the sweeper. Good run from both
Jeff leads, and comes in with a sick entry on the wall past the tire wall. Entry into the tranisiton is again close and Dai spins! Jeff Jones moves on! A privateer from the grassroots scene.
Taka Aono Vs. Pat Mordaunt
Taka leads, and come out sideways. Pat is close behind and both stay in drift through the course. Slight correction at end by Taka.
Pat leads, and comes out with a very nice angle. Taka is close and mirrors Pat with a slightly shalower angle. Pat spins and comes to a halt at the end. Taka moves on

Introduces 2008 Champion Tanner Foust at Streets of Long Beach
WAYNE, N.J. April 9, 2009 – During the kick-off of Formula Drift’s 2009 season in Long Beach, Calif., this weekend, Hankook Tire will unveil the newest addition to its racing team, 2008 Formula Drift Champion Tanner Foust.
In its third season of participation in the Formula Drift series competition, Hankook is sponsoring two official race teams, team Papadakis and team Dynamic Autosports. Papadakis team members include the 2007 and 2008 Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust, who will be making a run at his third straight Formula Drift title this year, with a new Scion tC drift car and new Hankook Ventus tires.

Eric is on his way over and the car will be completed and ready for him to drive for Formula Drift: Round 1 on the streets of Long Beach this week. As the car is now in its final stages of prep. Should be done by Tuesday and we look forward to seeing it and Eric out there. Take the jump for some more snaps.
Eric O Sullivan To Compete In Formula Drift Series With Rockstar Energy Drinks & Hankook Tires

ERIC O SULLIVAN TO COMPETE IN FORMULA DRIFT SERIES WITH ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINKS AND HANKOOK TIRES
Former Prodrift Series Champion and current JDM Allstars Triple Crown Series Champion Eric O Sullivan has announced plans to compete in Formula Drift series in the United States for the 2009 season. Eric will be joining Robbie Nishida at the Dynamic Autosports/Gruppe S Team in a 2007 Subaru Impreza STI for the 7-round series, which commences April 11th-12th on the Streets of Long Beach, California.
After witnessing a monumental performance at the World Drift Championship event in Long Beach last November, Eric’s title sponsors Rockstar Energy Drink and Hankook Tires will be helping him to achieve his goal of challenging some of the best drifting talent in the World for the championship. O’Sullivan earned his bid to the invite-only World Championships through his 2007 series championship in the Irish Pro Drift series, Prodrift European Series 3rd place overall and added a JDM All Stars Triple Crown championship to his resume in 2008. O’Sullivan drove his Honda F20-powered AE86 Corolla in the competition, and was able to claim a respectable 15th-place qualification despite being the lowest-powered car in the field. Continue reading
